The truck I ordered will be arriving sometime next weekend. So I just listed my car for sale in the place I think it will be most appreciated, my local SCCA chapter’s website. No more autocrossing in it for me.

I’ve had the car for 10 years. I bought it in December of ‘05 and I have put 110K miles on it myself. I’ve modded it, loved it and loathed it at various times. I knew I would have to do this when I placed the order for the truck but it didn’t seem real. I’m kinda sad about it now. I hope the next owner isn’t a huge d-bag. I hope they appreciate the mods and hoon it.

Am I weird or has anyone else been sad when they had to get rid of their car?

It’s not weird

It IS weird to not mention what the vehicle IS though....

As you don’t mention what make and model it is, I’m just going to assume it’s a Volvo V50

Indeed it is. Just modded with a 4.6 SOHC, converted to RWD, shortened to a 2-dr coupe with a manual conversion. The mods are quite extensive.

Why not keep it?

Tacoma actually. F-150 is too big and doesn’t come in a manual.

Using it as a down payment on the truck. Plus I am going to start going to the track with my motorcycle.

I hear ya, but I don’t know. It sounds to me like the car is worth more to you than you’ll get selling it. I regret the hell out of doing the same with my old Miata. Just sayin’.

Quite normal to feel that way. You’re moving on to a different chapter in your life in some small way. For you it may be more obvious than most in that your new purchase will most likely not be tossed around with gusto whilst trying to not hit cones and having a painter’s tape number on the side or window. In certain cases, the purchase of a new vehicle is due to a change in life circumstances. A new job further away might require a more reliable vehicle for some. Maybe you got your second kid on the way and that RX-7 isn’t exactly the place to put 2 car seats when the wife has taken the minivan to HER job.

Enjoy the memories. Just don’t forget that there are more to come with a different vehicle and the life changes that may have prompted the vehicle change. ;)

It is but you can’t sell sentimental value. I would love to keep it, gut it, cage it and track it but that isn’t the smart decision. It wouldn’t get used very often, and I have other hobbies I’ve been neglecting the past few years in order to autocross. Time to move on for now. Such is life.

Did you struggle to get one with a manual? A friend ordered one last fall and had to argue with the dealer to get a manual. They could not fathom that somebody wanted a manual truck.

No, not really. It was pretty straight forward. They only had one ‘16 on the lot at the time and where taking a bunch of orders. I’ve found a couple within 2 hr driving radius on lots with manuals.

Normal, you had good times with the car.

I moved to NYC in 2009 for school and didn’t need a car. I thought I might stay there forever, so I sold my Civic Si ep3. Not the most amazing car in the world but I loved that car and was sad to sell it. Less than 9 months later my dad got cancer which brought me back home. At that time I could not buy one for the price I sold mine for.

There are times I wish I still had that car. But if I still had it, it would have probably been reliable and then I would not have owned any of the cars I have owned over the past few year. Some of these cars have been... less reliable ...which has lead me to meet the group of car friends I work with now.
